Irish artist creates beautiful Game of Thrones-inspired action figures

The hand painted, hand cut wooden figures are going on show in the US this weekend.

THE GAME OF THRONES series has inspired mountains and mountains of fan art, but these beautiful wooden figures are a (wood)cut above the rest.

Irish artist Mick Minogue created these hand painted character figures for Winter is Coming, an US art exhibition inspired by the book series.

The show will be presented by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin in Seattle this weekend.

Mick told DailyEdge.ie that the artists involved in the show have been asked to take their influences only from the book series.

That means the actors from the TV show are completely off limits:

They have requested that there are no likenesses or portraits of Peter Dinklage, as I think everyone just wants to make Dinklage pictures.

Mick’s eight action figures are all based around a ‘battle damage’ theme – each character chosen has been “battered, bruised, or has some iconic scarring for their troubles”.

So far, he has revealed two of the eight figures. You’ve seen the Hound:

Explaining the action figure-style packaging, Mick said:

I love how toys are packaged and displayed. The packages act like frames for these desirable little plastic sculptures. I want grown ups to want these art pieces as much as a kid would a toy.

Mick will be revealing one figure per day in the lead up to the show this Saturday – keep an eye on his website and Facebook page for more.
